Dr. Joanna Pfaff-Czarnecka is a professor of social anthropology at the Faculty of Sociology, Bielefeld University. The regional emphasis of her research is on the Himalayan region, South Asia and on immigration societies of Central Europe. The researches conducted in the field of political and legal anthropology focus on ethnicity, minority rights, democratization processes at sub-national level and globalization processes from a social anthropological point of view.
