Moral economy revisited
Date: 7 – 10 September 2020
Convenor: Tanja Skambraks (Mannheim, GER)
The workshop will bring together researchers from history, behavioural economics, sociology, biology and anthropology to discuss the concept of 'moral economy', both as a heuristic category of scientific research as well as a leading principle of economic ethics in human societies, past and present. By looking at central questions of cooperation, prosociality, the idea of the common good and empathy as driving forces of human behaviour from different viewpoints, we will take a critical approach on well-known narratives of the so-called homo oeconomicus, establishing an overdue interdisciplinary counter narrative of economic thinking, hoping to inspire recent societal debates.
