The Research Classes are the most important building block of the School's programme of study. They are grounded in the idea of peer learning and have up to 15 doctoral researchers regularly working on questions of the methods and theories relating to their research projects. They are led by professors or more advanced postdocs. The classes have the character of a workshop, which underlines their openness: the theme of a session can be the evaluation of source material, the theoretical conception of a research problem, or the discussion of an entire chapter from a student's dissertation.
Participants contribute their own questions and thus activate the scholarly knowledge embodied by the group members.
