Various funding organisations award prizes for outstanding dissertations. On this page we present the awards open to different themes and disciplines, including the Dissertations Prize for Bielefeld graduates. If your doctoral thesis was awarded a distinction it is also worth looking at the many funding organisations or societies that have open calls for specific subject areas. To this end, members of Bielefeld University can consult the data bank on research funding ELFI.
The Universitätsgesellschaft (University Society) is strongly committed to the promotion of talented young researchers.
Every year the Society awards the Dissertations Prize to doctoral theses completed at Bielefeld University with the distinction of summa cum laude. The prize money of 1,000 Euro is sponsored by businesses from the region of Ostwestfalen-Lippe. The right to nominate a thesis remains with the faculty, and one thesis is award per faculty. The prize is awarded every year in February in an academic ceremony at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research (ZiF).
Since 2013, there has also been a Dissertations Prize for interdisciplinary work in the area of organisation and staff development. The prize money of 2,000 Euro is sponsored by the company "Dimension21 Training und Beratung." The right to nominate a thesis lies with the supervising professors. A jury chaired by the Rektor of Bielefeld University judges the award. The prize is awarded by Dimension21 as part of a management conference.
This prize is awarded to theses with outstanding social significance that present their ideas in a clear and convincing way.
