Gender sensitive Language

Why gender sensitive language?

Language paints the picture of social togetherness. It determines our thinking and consciousness. At the same time, it influences our reality and perception. Language is alive, which means that a change to a gender-sensitive language is to be understood as a continuous further development of today's language use. Language can create mutual respect by using gender-sensitive language. In contrast to the use of the generic masculine, gender-sensitive language can address any person, and thus any gender. Accordingly, all gender identities are made visible through the use of gender-sensitive language. Linguistic equal treatment of the sexes using gender-sensitive language is an essential prerequisite for gender equality.

How can gender-sensitive language be implemented?

There are many ways in which gender sensitive language can be used. The best known, next to the gender_gap, is the gender star*. With the help of the gender star*, the genders outside of the binary gender system are also addressed.

Why is gender-sensitive language worthwhile?

With the help of gender-sensitive language, acceptance and respect for fellow human beings can be expressed and fair and non-discriminatory coexistence can be achieved. Despite initial difficulties in using gender-sensitive language, it is worthwhile as equality-relevant topics such as tolerance, inclusion and diversity are supported.
