35 years Working Group SEM
This is the Web-Page of the Working Group Structural Equation Modeling. This group exists since 1986 and is going to create information pages for its members and other people who are interested in developments and applications of structural equation models.
SEM courses at the Essex Summer School 2021 and the Summer School in Social Science Methods in Lugano
At the Essex Summer School 2021 Prof. Peter Schmidt and Dr. Daniel Seddig will offer the course "Confirmatory Factor Analysis and Structural Equation Modeling". Further information can be found here.
At the Summer School in Social Science Methods in Lugano, Prof. Eldad Davidov and Prof. Peter Schmidt will offer the course "Structural Equation Modeling (SEM)". Further information can be found here.
The next meeting will take place on March 09-11 2022 in Tilburg
The next meeting of the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) Working Group will take place on March 09-11 2022 in Tilburg. Further info will follow.
The past meeting of the SEM Working Group took place on March 18-19 2021 via an online conference. The organizer of the meeting was Reinhard Hössinger from the University of Vienna. Here you can find more information about the past meeting.
Year of foundation 1986
The Working Group „Structural Equation Modeling“ was founded in 1986 and had its first meeting at ZUMA (now GESIS) in Mannheim. Meetings will be in April or May each year depending on the local organizer who will be elected in the respective previous meeting. Members of the group are coming from various disciplines, for example Psychology, Sociology, Political Science, Economy. The Working Group has an informal character. There is no affiliation to any research organization. Exchange and presentation of methodological problems in structural equation modeling and related fields are the main goal of the group. The presentation of current research problems on the meetings with questions from the speaker to the audience are highly recommended.
Meetings were at different locations in Germany, Netherlands and Switzerland. Meetings until 1999 take place biannually and from 2007 up to now the meetings take place annually.
Meetings until 1999
The meeting was organized by Hans-Gerhard Strohe (Humboldt University of Berlin) and Jan-Bernd Lohmöller (Free University) with one day in East-Berlin (open GDR) and one day in West Berlin. The meeting was based on an “illegal” collaboration before 1989 between both persons, mainly about LVPLS.
Revitalization in 2007
A meeting of the working group will be held on March, 22 and 23, 2007 (Thursday and Friday) at the Center of Interdisciplinary Research (ZiF) of the University of Bielefeld. For the “new update” of the working group, no special topic of the SEM research section will be announced. Members and non-members of the working group are invited to give a contribution for the proposed meeting. Especially young researchers with developments and applications of structural equation modeling are encouraged to apply. The paper can be presented in German or English. 8 contributions are in German and 3 in English. One example: Holger Steinmetz & Peter Schmidt & Eldad Davidov: With or without constraints? An empirical comparison of two approaches to estimate interaction effects in structural equation models.
Currently approximately 146 members are on the list. The membership is easy - write an e-mail to my secretary firstname.lastname@example.org
