Implementation of an interdisciplinary network for the improvement of the chances of refugees and their families in primary schools.
The Bem-vindo project evaluation
The Bem-vindo project aims to create an interdisciplinary network to improve the integration of refugee children in primary schools. Baris Ertugrul will provide scientific support for the project under the direction of Ullrich Bauer. The scientific monitoring and evaluation will take place over the entire duration (36 months) of the Bem-vindo project. Scientific research will accompany institutional processes of implementation, professionalisation and multi-professional cooperation in the context of the bem-vindo project. Especially for the transfer of experiences, results and information to other communities or schools, the qualitative, quantitative and ethnographic surveys play an important role.
In general, the project can be divided into two main phases:
- The process evaluation includes the process and implementation analysis. In this way, barriers during project implementation and possibilities for reaching target groups are identified. A first feedback loop is created along the results of the implementation phase, resulting in good practice recommendations for schools and professions.
- The second phase aims to illustrate and document the different needs and peculiarities of school work with children in the Bem-vindo project. In the respective location contexts, an in-depth analysis will be carried out along ethnographically and qualitatively conceived survey phases, which will draw a more differentiated picture of the different school realities. This shift in emphasis is accompanied by the insight that parents and parental work have made up a particularly important part of the project's social workers.
The Bem-vindo project
Bem-vindo is a project funded by the "Stiftung für Wohlfahrtspflege NRW" of AWO OWL. e.V. under the direction of Teresa Pinheiro. On the one hand the project aims at improvement and evaluation of primary school networks with already existing support systems. In order to provide and improve support at an individual level and to integrate refugee children and their families, various actors from the fields of education, health care and the cultural activities of the city need to interact. On the other hand early intervention improves the chances of education and integration of children inside and beyond the school sector in many different areas. The project is a significant contribution to the handling of the global refugees? movement which gains importance in Germany since 2015 at the latest.
