About Paulo Pinheiro
Paulo is a senior researcher at the Centre for Prevention and Intervention in Childhood and Adolescence (CPI), Faculty of Educational Science, Bielefeld University. His professional background is in Medicine and Public Health. Former academic positions were at the University Children’s Hospital Münster, the Clinical Trial Center KKS Münster, the School of Public Health, Bielefeld University, and at the Faculty of Educational Sciences, University of Duisburg-Essen. He also worked as Health Officer at a Regional Health Authority in the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW). Before he joined the CPI, he worked in several national and international projects in the areas of paediatric drug and clinical trial development, burden of disease, syndromic surveillance and primary prevention. His current work comprises the development and promotion of health-related issues in education (e.g. health literacy, children of mentally-ill parents, school-based health promotion and primary prevention). A focus of his current activities lies on health literacy in childhood and adolescence. He is currently co-head of the German consortium “Health Literacy in Childhood and Adolescence” (HLCA), an association of ten projects related to basic and applied research on health literacy in childhood and adolescence.
