The Faculty of History, Philosophy and Theology (Department of History) at Bielefeld University is seeking to fill the position of a
Junior Professor (W1, without tenure track) for Image Theory/Art History
starting as soon as possible.
We are looking for a junior scholar with a research focus on image
theory/art history from a cultural and/or media scientific perspective.
Requirements:
As part of the Bielefeld University Department of History, the working
area Image Theory/Art History interlinks in its research and teaching
image theoretical and art historical skills in a theoretically
reflected manner and in dialogue with history. We are therefore looking
for a personality renowned by relevant research activities, who
represents image theoretical and art historical approaches
independently and in an innovative manner and who deals with current
cultural and/or media scientific discourses. His or her research
activities are characterised by thorough studies of theories and
methodological questions.
Expectations:
We expect a cooperative, team-oriented working style as well as an
active participation in the advancement and establishment of the BA
course „Art History and Historical Image Studies“. The working area
Image Theory/Art History and the Department of History are striving for
a lasting research network with other humanities, cultural and social
sciences at Bielefeld University. The future post holder is to actively
contribute towards this objective by a constructive and engaged
participation in relevant research projects and by an interdisciplinary
oriented cooperation with research groups both inside and outside the
faculty. We expect a motivated involvement in the academic
self-administration.
Requirements for the advertised Junior Professorship are an university
degree, an outstanding doctorate in image theory/art history as well as
a pedagogical aptitude proven by teaching experience. Applications from
abroad are welcome. After a period of familiarization, the applicant
should be in a position to teach courses in both English and German.
Recruitment is initially limited to three years and can be extended by
another three years subject to a positive interim evaluation. The
evaluation procedure is regulated in the „Guidelines for Junior
Professorships“.
The faculty considers gender equality as an important task and expects
the future post holder to contribute to its continued implementation.
Applications from suitably qualified handicapped and severely
handicapped persons are explicitly encouraged.

achievements in the provision of equal opportunities and has been
