Junior Professor (W1, no tenure track) for Applied Social Data Science
as soon as possible.
Candidates should be excellent junior scientists and able to contribute
to research and teaching in the field of social data science at
Bielefeld University. Associated with the professorship is the position
as managing director of the Leibniz-ScienceCampus “Studying Regional
Development Dynamics and their Political Consequences: SOEP RegioHub at
Bielefeld University“. The Leibniz-ScienceCampus funded by the Leibniz
Association is a research cluster of Bielefeld University and the
research infrastructure institute Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP).
The successful candidate will be expected to be an internationally
visible scholar of survey research as well as research of social media
data having published in peer-reviewed journals of the field. We also
expect experience in sociological research using longitudinal data of
the Socio-Economic Panel and documented experiences in acquiring
research grants and project management.
We expect the successful candidate to show an autonomous and active
manner of working, the ability to work as a member of a team, and a
clear willingness to strengthen research cooperation within the faculty
as well as in interdisciplinary projects. A broad research agenda
studying different aspects of survey research (e.g., survey sampling,
measurement error, mode effects) in association with different
dimensions of social inequality (e.g., health, migration,
gender/sexuality) is highly welcome. We prefer candidates with
documented experiences collecting and analyzing online as well as
regional data. Experience with record linkage procedures is a plus.
Research experiences abroad are welcomed.
The professorship will provide teaching in all BA and MA study programs
of the Faculty of Sociology. Teaching will include both substantial
sociological courses and courses related to quantitative methods and
data science. We prefer candidates with documented teaching experience
in both fields.
The appointment will be for three years. Given a successful evaluation
in accordance with the general Bielefeld University guidelines, it can
be extended for another three years. Preconditions for the
professorship are a university degree in the social sciences (sociology
and related disciplines), pedagogical aptitude, as well as a doctorate
in the social sciences. Requirements according to § 36 HG NRW will be
exclusively and extensively evaluated in the recruitment procedure (§
36 HG).
Applications from suitably qualified handicapped and severely
handicapped persons are explicitly encouraged.
