The Faculty of Linguistics and Literary Studies at Bielefeld University is seeking to fill vacancy of a
W2 Tenure Track/ W2-Professorship for Children's and Youth Literature
at the earliest opportunity, in order to strengthen the focus in the
area of children's and youth literature research.
The professorship serves to strengthen the systematic and theoretical
research profile of children's and youth literature studies. The future
holder of the position should accordingly be distinguished in the
research of German-language children's and youth literature, as
evidenced by an outstanding dissertation and other publications. S/he
has experience in third-party fundraising. In teaching, the position
holder offers seminars on children's and youth literature/media in all
teacher training courses and the Master's programme in
lnterdisciplinary Media Studies.
S/he should have a profile in the field of current children's and youth
literature/media, and teaching experience in academic teacher training,
preferably including literature and media didactic courses. In addition
to expertise in current children's and youth literature, a research
focus on the historically oriented children's and youth literature is
desired. The applicant should also have experience and knowledge in the
philologically oriented digital humanities in order to further develop
interdisciplinary research activities across faculties and
universities, thus also establishing the sub-discipline of corpus
literature studies in research and teaching. An active familiarisation
with the field is expected. Due to the responsibilities regarding
academic teacher training, a completed teacher training course (1st
state examination or Master of Education) and practical school
experience are preferable.
lf all mandatory and desired criteria are met by an applicant, the
professorship will be filled as a permanent W2-Professorship. lf this
should not be fully available, a temporary W2-ratio with the
possibility of a delimitation according to a tenure method takes place.
The prerequisites for recruitment are, according to § 36 HG, a
university degree in a relevant subject, special qualification for
scientific work, as evidenced by the quality of the doctorate,
pedagogical aptitude, as evidenced by appropriate previous training or,
exceptionally, as determined in the appointment procedure, and
additional scientific achievements, which are assessed exclusively and
comprehensively in the appointment procedure.
Applications from suitably qualified handicapped and severely
handicapped persons are explicitly encouraged.
Bielefeld University has received a number of awards for its
achievements in the provision of equal opportunity and has been
