Selling EthniCity: Urban Cultural Politics in the Americas

As part of the Inter-American Research Group entitled E Pluribus Unum?-Ethnic Identities in Transnational Integration Processes in the Americas the symposium 'Selling EthniCity: Urban Cultural Politics in the Americas' explored the importance of ethnicity in the performance, experience, marketing, and visual and narrative imagination of the city in the Americas. Scholars from various disciplines, including literary and cultural studies, sociology, anthropology, history, geography, and architecture, from Europe and the Americas presented and discussed their research on the festivalization and commodification of cities, urban ethnic cultures and communities, ethnic urban imaginaries, and processes of gentrification and ghettoization.
