Research projects

Our research projects aim to better understand the development of perception and movement in childhood and adolescence. We explore the connection between touch, body knowledge and movement. With our research on normal development processes, we lay the foundation for the study of developmental disorders.

B013: Multisensory integration and sensorimotor development across childhood and adolescence.

  • Project Manager: Dr. Marie Martel

In this study we ask how children between 4 and 12 years old use their different senses to coordinate movements. How well can children adapt their movements to visual impressions, and how well can they copy their own movements if they see nothing? The results of this study will show how the integration of different sensory systems develops over childhood.

Duration of the experiment: one visit, about 1h30
Age range: 4-12 Jahre

B018: Development of the connection between sensory processing and movement in adolescence

  • Project Manager: Dr. Marie Martel

In this study we examine the perception of touch in 12-18 year old adolescents. It is often assumed that at this age the sensory systems are already finished. We ask if this really applies to the location of touches. We suspect, however, that these processes of perception are still changing in adolescence. The results of this study will show if this is true

Duration of the experiment: one visit, about 1h30
Age range: 10-20 Jahre

B044: Effects of body position on touch processing in children

  • Project Manager: Dr. Boukje Habets

In this study, we examine reactions to touch in children aged 4 to 12 change. Previous studies have shown that the processing of touch develops until at least 10 years of age. We use a research approach that allows us to study as many age groups as possible in the same way. In this way, we hope to be able to describe precisely some aspects of the developmental process of sensory-motor functions. This should provide new approaches to investigate developmental delays and developmental disorders.

Duration of the experiment: one visit, about 1h30
Age range: 8-12 Jahre
