Bielefeld University has been committed to constantly advance the process of internationalization not only of research activities but also of study and teaching. In 2011, Bielefeld University launched its International Guest Lectureship Programme in order to provide students with the opportunity to experience international learning and to gather intercultural competence. Professors of all faculties may propose lecturers from foreign universities to teach at Bielefeld University for a minimum of two weeks up to one semester. So far, a total of 166 applications from all faculties have been funded in 22 approval rounds.
Application can be submitted at any time up to four semesters in advance through an application form. For applications please use the “IGL application form” (see below). Please note that you will have to comment in detail on the following points in your application:
In addition, a written pledge from the dean of the faculty, to fund 20% of the overall expenses, has to be attached (see below: Vorlage Erklärung DekanIn) as well as the course outline of the lecture and the CV of the guest lecturer.

A commission appointed by the Rectorate of Bielefeld University decides on the allocation of guest lectureships. The committee usually comes together twice a year. During the winter term the committee makes the decision in November and during the summer term in May.
The deadline for applications to be taken into account for the term applied, are the 1st October and 1st April for the following terms respectively. Please check current information on our website.
