Accessibility is an important aspect of any design process. Digital products such as websites are not exception to this rule. This ensures that the information on the website is accessible to everyone.
Various aspects of accessibility, such as perceptible content, sufficient colour contrasts and alternative texts to images, must be taken into account.
The Competence Centre for Accessible Digital University Administration.NRW can advise you on what is important for an accessible website, how to implement accessibility technically and how to evaluate the accessibility of existing websites.
The BiBa short test (web) from the Competence Centre for Accessible Digital University Administration.NRW is a test procedure to test the digital accessibility of websites and to get an initial impression of accessibility. It is based on the most important test steps of EN 301 549 in version 3.2.1 and the BIK BITV test.
Important to know: The short test is a simplified version and not a comprehensive accessibility test, so it cannot be regarded as a certification procedure. It is ideal for an initial internal assessment of the accessibility of a website and can also serve as preparation for certification by a BIK BITV test.
Universities are legally obliged to make their websites accessible. The EU standard DIN-EN 301 549 defines the requirements for websites and software and, in sections 9–11, outlines the conformity criteria of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1).
In NRW, the Act on Equal Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities (BGG NRW) regulates the implementation of accessibility for public bodies and contains specific provisions for the implementation of equality for people with disabilities.
The "Barrierefreie-Informationstechnik-Verordnung NRW (BITVNRW)" specifies the application of the BBGs rules for all IT products which are either used or developed by the states public authories.
