Nowadays, pharmaceutical residues can be found in all environmental compartments. Many of them are bioaccumulative, persistent, and can just rarely be removed by current wastewater treatment plants. Despite this, there are no restrictions or legal limits for pharmaceuticals in the environment. Although it's already known that some pharmaceuticals, such as the antibiotic sulfamethoxazole, have a significant impact on various plant species, there are still many knowledge gaps on this topic. In particular, the influence of pharmaceuticals on the interaction between plants and other organisms has been researched very little.
This project aims to investigate the influence of various pharmaceuticals on two species of leafy vegetables. Therefore, germination assays as well as growth and development experiments will be performed. Furthermore, the influence on interactions between plants and other organisms will also be investigated.
