Information for new students starting the first semester in Medicine

Dear Students,

Welcome to the Medical School EWL! We would like to congratulation you on being awarded a place on the medical study programme and look forward to accompanying you on an exciting learning journey. Here you will find the most important information for ensuring you get off to a good start in your studies.

Please note the following important dates:

Enrolment deadline
Please ensure that you enrol by the deadline if you have no yet done so. Further information can be found in your notice of admission letter.

1. Compulsory measles immunisation

In the first semester, you will already come into contact with patients at the University Center East Westphalia-Lippe as part of your studies. Because of this, you will need to show proof of immunisation against measles in order to participate.

To prove your immunity, you will need to show evidence of two vaccination doses for measles or an antibody test. The timings and spacing of the vaccinations are not relevant. If you do not have full protection, or if your vaccination records are unclear, please contact your general practitioner as soon as possible.

At the start of your studies, your measles vaccination or immunity status will be checked. Please then be ready to present your vaccination card, record of vaccinations or proof of sufficient immunity at this time.

2. Covid-19 Vaccination

The ‘3G’ rule applies to class participation, so you therefore need to show proof that you are vaccinated, recovered or tested for each course that you attend in person. We strongly recommend that you get fully vaccinated prior to the start of studies.

Admittance to in-person courses is not permitted without a valid sticker on your university card. For more information, please refer to the announcement from 29 September 2021 regarding the latest Covid-19 regulations.

Are you prepared for the basic science subjects in medicine? This self-assessment test on the subjects of biology, chemistry, mathematics and physics tests your skills and gives you tips on how to prepare for these subject requirements in time for the start of your studies.

The test is, of course, anonymous and free of charge.

Subject: biology

Subject: maths

Subject: mathematics/physics

All course events are planned to take place in person with the exception of lectures. Of course, we cannot guarantee that this will be the case throughout the semester, as we are dependent on the changing nature of the pandemic as well as political responses to it. You can find the latest information on studying at Bielefeld in times of the Covid-19 pandemic here.
