The Faculty of Sociology is a research-intensive institution. In recent years, two central profile areas have emerged: inequality research and world society research. Until 2016, inequality research was institutionalized in SFB 882 "From Heterogeneities to Inequalities". A large number of research projects are currently being carried out in this area: These include longitudinal studies such as Twinlife and Krimstadt (Crimoc), research projects on notions of justice in organizations but also the activities of faculty members within the Institute for Research on Conflict and Violence (IKG). The institutional core of world society research is the Institute for World Society (IW).
