Personal Coach

As part of the BMBF Research Focus "Human-Technology Interaction in the Demographic Shift", the regional cluster of innovation "Networked Living - The Smart Apartment (KogniHome)" was established in collaboration with 14 project partners from industry and research. The research group Neurocognition and Action participates in KogniHome and is involved in the subproject 3 "Personal Coach". This subproject strives to develop an individualised, adaptive health-training utilizing modern sensor technology and psychological methods. In cooperation with the research group Cognitronics and Sensor Systems (Prof. Ulrich Rückert) and industrial partner Hella KGaA Hueck & Co. new sensor systems for measuring vital signs will be developed and implemented into the system, enabling personalised feedback during training sessions. The furniture technology company Hettich contributes their know-how to the development of a multipurpose smart chair which supports relaxation as well as activation through guided exercises, e.g. chair-gymnastics.

The research goal of KogniHome is to develop and implement technology that improves the quality of everyday life of people living in a smart home. The main goal is to provide a supportive, intelligent and trustworthy environment that residents enjoy to use in a self-determined way up to high age. The interaction with smart home components should be free of complicated interfaces and instead rely on natural interaction using voice control, gestures and automatic recognition of the inhabitants? needs and wishes. To reach this goal the system needs to be able to "learn along" and adapt to changing requirements of inhabitants in different phases of their life.
