Short biography

Victoria Sophie Böttcher, born in 1991, started studying Psychology at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands in 2010. After having successfully completed her Bachelor’s degree she did her Master’s degree at the University of Zurich, Switzerland, at the department of psychology under supervision of Prof. Dr. Dr. Andreas Maercker. Her thesis “The Relation of Childhood Neglect with Mental Health and Cognitive Functioning – A Cross-Sectional Study of Primary School Children Living in Tanzania” focused on the topic of childhood maltreatment.

During her studies Victoria Sophie Böttcher worked as a student assistant at different chairs in the field of clinical psychology. Among other things she was responsible for the support of classes. Victoria Sophie Böttcher did internships at the Clinic for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University (LMU) Munich in Germany as well as at the chair for Psychopathology and Clinical Intervention at the University of Zurich, Switzerland.

On October 1, 2016 Victoria Sophie Böttcher joined the graduate school “FlüGe” to do her doctorate’s degree on the topic of mental health of refugees who have been allocated to Bielefeld.
