Study Group: Popularization of Science

At least since the 20th century, not only science decides what becomes part of the scientific sphere but the public also has a say. The popularization of science plays an important role in the production, distribution, acceptance, and application of various forms of knowledge. The popularization of science also acts as a mediator between experts and non-experts; additionally it serves its own interests and follows its own reasons. In the study group we will get to know and discuss case studies from this relatively new field of research. External PhD students, e. g. from the research group for the history of the Deutsche Hygiene Museum in Dresden, will put their work samples up for discussion. The study group is open to all students interested in this field of the Historical Studies of Science.
