Working Group Bibliometrics
The working group Bibliometrics emanated from the Institute for Science and Technology Studies (IWT) and has been part of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies of Science (I2SoS) since 2013. It consists of members with different disciplinary backgrounds, including sociology, economics, science studies as well as computer science. The working group makes use of bibliometric methods in a variety of settings.
The combination of bibliometric analyses with other qualitative and quantitative social research methods is a distinctive feature of some of the groups projects. Examples for mixed methods triangulation can be found in the methodological design of the OAUNI-project and the project Open Access to the communication system of science - Changing patterns of participation.
The working group is also involved in the development and quality assurance of bibliometric databases and other resources. Examples in this context are the institutional disambiguation project, which aims to standardize address information from Germany in the Web of Science databases, and the KOA-project, which periodically provides a matching list for freely accessible journals.
The thematic scope of the group’s research currently focuses on open access publishing and on the structure and transformation process of the market for scientific publications. The working group is member of the German Competence Centre for Bibliometrics.Contact: firstname.lastname@example.org
