"Modernity Atrophied in Latin America" by Prof. Dr. Rafael Torres Sánchez
The workshop was held during the Winter Semester of 2015-2016, as one of the activities for the seminar "Peripheral Modernity and Literature", given by Prof. Dr. Joachim Michael. During the workshop, the discussion was based on the particular way that the modern experience is set in Latin American countries. Analyzing examples of literary bodies, the different notions of modernity, in which prevails the observation that modernity in Latin America is not fully realized, or only contradictory and dysfunctional, was pointed out. The discussion included the inadequacies that characterize the modernization process, since they are interpreted as signs of possible resistance and alternatives.
