Political Sociology

The working group "Political Sociology" examines how social contexts become the subject of politics. What are the conditions, forms and consequences of politicization - and also of depoliticization - in society? The relationship between politics and science plays a major role and is therefore an important part of our research. Expertise and evidence are often referenced in order to present and justify collectively binding decisions as inevitable. However, we suspect that under the conditions of world society there will be considerable conflicts about what should be considered valid and politically relevant knowledge and what should be considered scientific truth. In global environmental politics or food crises, very different political and epistemic authorities collide. It is our intention to look for the underlying reasons and to comprehend what this means for politics and science in the future.
