General information: With one million citizens Kathmandu is by far the biggest city in Nepal and at the same time capital city of the country. The city is located in a basin of the central mountains of Nepal which are up to 2700 meters high. Katmandu is a metropolis that brings the most different kind of people together, especially the influence of Hinduism and Buddhism can be seen in the city. It is the seat of government and administrations of Nepal and at the same time many non-governmental- and international organizations can be found in the city, which makes it most interesting for Development studies.

The University Kathmandu is an autonomous university that is independent of government. Since its foundation in 1991 it is growing steadily. The University offers courses from Bachelor to PhD-level at six different Schools. The School of Arts is one of these six. It is separated in three departments and three science centers and offers science and teaching at the fields of arts, music, media- and social science. Latter concentrates explicitly on the field of development studies.

Course offerings: The course program of our Erasmus+ partner in Kathmandu, the department of development studies, can be found at the departments’ homepage.

NOTICE: The offered courses should be seen as orientation and thematic classification of our partner. They are not definite or decisively for the course contents during the Erasmus+ stay, but should give a first impression. Therefore it is advisable to get detailed information at the departments’ website.

Other information: International students may stay in single rooms at the guest house during their stay. There are student- and sports clubs. Further information can be found at the universities’ website.
