General information: Rouen is a small town located near the Seine river. It is the capital of the region Haute-Normandie. The public University of Rouen educates about 25.000 students on six different campuses in the city. The Faculty of Human and Social Sciences is part of the main campus St. Aignan and consists of the three disciplines Sociology, Psychology and Educational Sciences.

The bachelor’s programme in Sociology is divided into three phases (L1, L2, L3) and gives an overview of different sociological fields due to a wide range of courses. Two specializations are possible within the programme: Sociology and Political Science. The programme includes fields such as general sociology, sociological methods as well as four different thematic focuses: health, work, economic, and urban sociology. Furthermore, the course offering also includes topics concerning media, education, migration, family, poverty and anthropology.
Students of the MA Sociology study in the Master Recherche that is characterized by a research based focus and a strong formation in methods of the social sciences. The MA programme thematically concentrates on issues such as social inequalities, social movements, political sociology and organizations that are complemented by courses on mehtods and a research project.
Study terms: The winter semester regularly starts in mid-September and ends in January. The summer semester regularly starts in mid-January and ends in Jun. Exams take place respectively in January and June.
Other information: The University of Rouen does not directly provide student housing. In France, student housing is provided through regional student’s offices, the centres régionales des œuvres universitaires et scolaires (CROUS) or through private renters.The university offers international students support by providing French courses at all levels during the semester free of cost, a study guide and an orientation event. The university has Health centers for students and student associaltions in the areas of academy, culture, internationals, volunteering and sports contribute to a lively university environment.
