The field of „Multicultural Education“ emphasizes aspects of educational policies and the structure of educational systems, and especially focuses on international dimensions, problems in education, and the transition to work and adult education. Special emphasis is put on underlying structures, conditions and consequences of education in different contexts in a constantly changing society. The capacities and possibilities of multicultural relations in education is also a major focus of analysis. Exchange and visiting students receive a letter of acceptance from one school for one subject. Despite this, students can take courses in other subjects and other schools to form a larger multi-disciplinary course schedule according to their own needs and interests, as long as they meet the requirements of a course and there are still places left. For some course units, the attendance of exchange and visiting students is restricted. An overview of the course programme is available on the University´s website.
Study terms: Each semester in Tampere is divided into two periods. The winter term starts regularly at the end of August or the beginning of September and ends in mid-December. The summer semester starts regularly at the beginning of January and ends at the end of May. The academic calendar is available here.
Other information: Student accommodation is organized by the agency TOAS, which only reserves a restricted number of rooms for international students. Therefore, students should apply as soon as possible for such accommodation. Concerning student activities, Tampere has SITR, which is an active network that provides useful information and advice as well as organized activities. Furthermore, the university offers incoming students manifold support services such as Finnish courses, orientation days, a student survival guide for download, a tutoring programme as well as cultural and sport services from Unipoli that are open to all students.
