Erasmus+ Cooperative Agreements

By thematic areas

The following is an overview of our Erasmus+ partner universities listed by thematic areas. In this context, thematic area refers to courses at the partner university that are mainly but not exclusively offered in this area. Courses from other thematic fields are offered to a lesser extent. Therefore, it is useful to inform yourself about the study programs and course offerings on the website of the partner institution. The application is not restricted to students with a corresponding study profile but open to all students who can justify their interest according to their study cycle (BA/MA/PhD).

There is also an overview listed by country or study cycle available.

For more information on the Erasmus+ programme or study exchange at the Faculty of Sociology, please consult erasmus.soc@uni-bielefeld.de. For detailed information on certain partner universities please consult the corresponding coordinators during their office hours.

General Sociology / Organizations

The field of general sociology is primarily dedicated to examining the many aspects of sociology, including its history and classic and modern theories, as well as the questions and problems that face contemporary societies. Its main objective is to present and discuss social phenomena that influence all areas of social life. One special subfield concerns institutions and organizations. Organizational sociology deals with the role of organizations as social systems. It addresses the various issues pertaining to schools, administration, associations, family, and other types of organizations. The Research Unit 3 - Organizations at Bielefeld is dedicated to scientific studies of such institutional structures. Our partners in this area are wide-ranging and not exclusively focused on organizational sociology, but instead treat social phenomena in relation to different areas and perspectives.

The Erasmus+ coordinator responsible for the cooperation agreements in this area is Prof. Dr. Veronika Tacke.

Migration, Transnationalization, and Development

As a field of research in the social sciences, the intersectional study of migration, transnationalization, and development conducted by the working group "Transnationalization, Development and Migration" addresses the social mechanisms which contribute to the genesis and reproduction of social practices and structures beyond the borders of national states. It specifically deals with implications for membership, such as citizenship. This agenda encompasses three areas of research: cross-border migration, development cooperation, and the Transnational Social Question. In all three fields the research deals with how categories of persons, organizations and states build social formations which cut across national borders, such as transnational social spaces, such as diasporas, transnational communities, transnational families, transnational social movements, issue networks of organizations – and the consequences of transnational social formations for lifeworlds, social inequalities and memberships.

Our partners do not always offer subjects exclusive to sociology and instead may offer subjects closely related to this field of research. Therefore, this field is recommended for those students whose study profiles are “Migration, Transnationalization, and Development” (BA program) and “Sociology of the Global World” (MA program).

The Erasmus+ coordinator responsible for the cooperation agreements in this area i s Natalya Kashkovskaya. Mrs. Kashkovskaya is also responsible for the agreement with Pakistan in the International Dimension programme.

The “Migration, Transnationalization, and Development” working group, which is part of the Faculty of Sociology at Bielefeld University, has established partnerships with the following universities in the areas of migration, transnationalization, and development:

Political Science

The discipline of political science understands policy to be an expression of societal forms of organization, relations, and interactions. Research in this area is focused on political and social structures, processes, and relations found not only in classic fields such as political theories and systems, comparative politics, and international relations, but also in areas such as the dimensions of globalization, world society, and the relationship between political systems and the social environment. The research unit 4 - Politics and Society at Bielefeld not only emphasizes the connection between political science and sociology, but also the connections with related disciplines such as economy and law.
