The compatibility of studies and appointments with family is of outstanding importance to Bielefeld University: the term family encompasses all forms of long-term private coexistence and generally means a lifelong generational bond characterised by the assumption of responsibility for one another. For this reason, the University pursues a family-conscious personnel policy and family-friendly study organisation as central tasks. It has been certified as a "family-friendly university" by berufundfamilieGmbH since 2006.
Health Management offers counselling and information on all aspects of (mental) health for all members of the university in the sense of a "signpost function". We provide support at an individual level with a wide range of campaigns, courses and counselling services, as well as within the framework of company integration management (BEM).
In its gender mainstreaming approach, the university systematically involves all members of the university and all status groups so that the aspiration enshrined in the mission statement becomes part of the culture: To realise equality in structures and processes as well as in figures and to integrate gender into research and teaching. The equality and gender portal is an invitation to all members of the university to find out more about the aspirations, goals and measures and to help ensure that Bielefeld University continues its equality success story.
Bielefeld University would like to welcome you and support you on your educational path, in your academic career, as a potential employer or training institution. As an institution that participates in social changes and political developments and even helps to shape them in many ways, we want to develop sustainable solutions to help people in need. We do not want a biographical break to become an obstacle to realising study plans or continuing to work in academia.
As a psychotherapy outpatient clinic at Bielefeld University, we offer psychotherapeutic diagnostics and therapy for adults. Due to our role as a university institution, our therapies are closely linked to psychotherapy research. In our outpatient clinic, we test and optimise the effectiveness of existing forms of therapy. We also investigate the causal factors and perpetuating mechanisms of mental illnesses as well as disorders that have been little researched to date. As a university outpatient clinic, we treat patients as part of research and teaching therapies.
Employees have the option of using a nickname in the university's IT systems by registering it in the PEVZ. How this works and what effects it has is described on this page. Students can change their own name in the PRISMA portal.
Bielefeld University has been dealing with addiction and its consequences for those affected and for the university as a whole since 1986. The work is based on two pillars: addiction counselling and addiction prevention.
For many, the move to university is the moment when they can fully develop their identity. Others may only realise who they are and how they want to be perceived during their studies. In all cases, Bielefeld University wants to be an environment in which this realisation can take place and has therefore set itself the goal of breaking down barriers for trans*, inter* and non-binary students at the university.
