Awards and Prizes

Various funding organisations regularly offer prizes for outstanding dissertations. On this page, in addition to the dissertation prize for Bielefeld doctoral graduates, the open-discipline and open-topic calls for entries are presented. If you have completed your dissertation with distinction, it is also worth checking the numerous discipline-specific funding organisations or professional societies for current award announcements. Dissertation Prize of the Universitätsgesellschaft Bielefeld

The promotion of outstanding young scientists at Bielefeld University is a special concern of the Universitätsgesellschaft Bielefeld.

Therefore, the Bielefeld University Society annually awards dissertation prizes for work that has been evaluated summa cum laude and completed at Bielefeld University. The dissertation prizes are endowed with € 1,000 each and are donated by companies from the Ostwestfalen-Lippe region. One dissertation is awarded per faculty (plus BiSEd). The right of nomination lies with the faculties or the BiSEd director.

During the summer, the faculties and the BiSEd are asked to submit proposals. Doctoral candidates who have successfully completed or passed their dissertation (i.e. oral examination) between the beginning of December of the previous year and the end of November of the current year may be nominated for the Dissertation Award. The deans will inform the faculties or the BiSEd about the exact deadlines and the documents to be submitted.

The dissertation prizes are awarded annually in February during an academic ceremony.
