The Medical School OWL at Bielefeld University intends to fill at the Department of Cardiology, Angiology und Internal Intensive Care (Campus Klinikum Lippe) a

Professorship for Internal Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine (W2) with focus on Sepsis / Infectiology and Heart Failure

at the earliest possible date.

At Bielefeld University, an innovative faculty of human medicine with an interdisciplinary individual and population medicine orientation and the University Hospital OWL (UK OWL), with the Klinikum Bielefeld, Evangelisches Klinikum Bethel (EvKB), and Klinikum Lippe as holders, are established. We are looking for personalities who want to seize the development situation and its challenges as a chance and actively participate in research, teaching, patient care, and organization. We offer an exciting environment that opens up a wide range of opportunities. You will be significantly involved in the further planning and implementation of the model study program in human medicine (according to ÄApprO), as well as in implementing the "clinician" and "advanced clinician scientist" programs, and you will have the opportunity to apply innovative concepts in teaching. At the same time, you will take on a significant role in developing an interconnected, inter/nationally competitive research profile "Medicine for people with disabilities and chronic diseases". The call aims at personalities with an already established national and international profile who can represent the field of expertise in research, teaching, and patient care in its entirety.

The prerequisites are

  • specialist qualification for internal medicine or internal medicine/cardiology or anesthesiology as well as possible additional designations for intensive care medicine and—if applicable—infectiology
  • relevant doctorate, and additionally scientific achievements according to § 36 paras. 1; no. 4 HG NRW
  • very well scientific achievements reflected in corresponding publications and third-party funding
  • broad clinical experience in the field of expertise and leadership experience
  • connectivity to the research profile of the Medical School EWL
  • extensive and innovative teaching experience for the subject to be represent
  • edexperience and active involvement in the equality-oriented promotion of young scientists

The position goes along with the leading physician within internal intensive care medicine. The internal intensive care medicine at Klinikum Lippe Detmold includes an intensive care unit and an IMC unit with a total of 30 bed spaces under cardiological management.

A clinical and scientific focus is heart failure therapy, which uses all ECLS procedures (including Impella, ECMO, and LVAD) in cooperation with heart surgery partners. In 2017 the clinic was certified by the German Cardiac Society (DGK) as a heart failure specialist clinic and is also a training center for CRT/ICD implantations.

Networking with the two other hospitals of the University Medical Center East Westphalia Lippe as well as the other faculties of Bielefeld University and the medical community in private practice in the region is expected. In accordance with these tasks, a personality with management experience and expertise as well as very good communication and coordination skills is sought.
