Professorship for Otology/Neurootology (W2)

at the earliest possible date.

At Bielefeld University, an innovative Medical School with an interdisciplinary individual and population medicine orientation and the University Medical Center East Westphalia Lippe, with the Klinikum Bielefeld, Evangelisches Klinikum Bethel (EvKB), and Klinikum Lippe as holders, are established. The call aims at personalities with a promisingly national and international research profile who can represent the field of work in research, teaching, and patient care in its entirety.

The prerequisites are

  • specialist qualification for Otolaryngology
  • relevant doctorate, and additionally scientific achievements according to § 36 paras. 1; no. 4 HG NRW
  • very well scientific achievements reflected in corresponding publications and third-party funding
  • broad clinical management experience in the field of otolaryngology with a focus on otology, neurootology
  • proven surgical expertise in the field of middle ear surgery and implantable hearing systems and in the application of modern surgical procedures in otology as well as vestibular surgery
  • basic science and/or clinical research experience in the field of implantable systems
  • connectivity to the research profile of the Medical School EWL
  • extensive and innovative teaching experience for the subject to be represented
  • experience and active involvement in the equality-oriented promotion of young scientists.

As position holder, you will lead the area of Otology and Neurootology within the Head and Neuro
Center of the Department for Otolaryngology at Klinikum Bielefeld
( . Klinikum Bielefeld has been certified as an Oncological Center of the German Cancer Society in 2021, including the scope of head and neck tumors.

You will develop the Otology and Neurootology area of the Head and Neuro Center clinically and scientifically and establish a comprehensive implantation and rehabilitation program for cochlea and active middle ear implants within this framework. Within the department of Otolaryngology you will also form a competitive fundamental and clinical research area concerning the optimization of biomechanical and bioelectrical interfaces of implantable systems.
Desired is the experience as an investigator in multicenter research projects and clinical trials.

We expect networking with other departments of the University Medical Center East Westphalia Lippe, other faculties of Bielefeld University, and the medical community in private practice in the region. Accordingly, we are looking for a personality with leadership experience, expertise in the entire field and excellent communication and coordination skills.
