|1. What exactly is the UniCard?
The UniCard is a new multifunctional ID card. This means that it serves as an optically readable ID so you can be easily identified as a student or employee if you want to enter the university building late at night or on the weekends. Additionally the UniCard carries a microchip so it can act as an electronically readable ID for lending books in the library or paying at the Studentenwerk.

You can get a UniCard if you are enrolled as a student or are an employee of Bielefeld University.

At the moment you can use the UniCard for:
|4. What data is saved on the UniCard?
On the front of your UniCard will be printed you title, first and last name, a picture of you and your university ID number as well as the dates for which your UniCard is valid. All this data (except for the validation dates) will not be saved electronically on the card. Only the numbers on the back of the UniCard, library ID and the card serial number are saved electronically.
|5. Why does my photo have to be on the UniCard?
There will be a photo of its user on every UniCard. This will ensure that no one other than you can use your UniCard e.g. for lending books or getting entry to the university.
|6. Which technology does the UniCard use?
The UniCard is equipped with a Mifare-DESFire-Chip. Mifare is the most used contactless chipcard technology worldwide. There is a memory chip on the card that is structured into an architecture of different sectors. Each sector can be used individually by different applications and each is secured with its own encryption key. Throuh this encryption no application can read the others transactions, for example the library can not know which menu you ate in the mensa that day.
|7. Who can help me if I have questions regarding the UniCard?
You can go to the Infopunkt in the university hall with all your questions regarding the UniCard or you can write an email.
|8. What to do if my UniCard stops working?
Even with a technology that is used worldwide there can be defects. If your UniCard breaks or does not work anymore you can get a quick and easy replacement at the Infopunkt in the university hall.
(There is a 10€ replacement fee for students an once you blocked your UniCard it can not be unblocked.)
|10. What does the UniCard cost?
For employees of the university the first UniCard as well as replacement cards are free.
For students only the first UniCard is free, if you loose the UniCard there will be a 10€ replacement fee.

|12. When can I pick up my UniCard after I uploaded a photo?
You can pick up your UniCard 2 working days after you uploaded a photo at the Infopunkt in the university hall.
|13. How do i revalidate my UniCard for the next semester?
Just put the UniCard in one of the machines near the Infopunkt or the Westend. The UniCard will be automatically revalidated for the next semester and the validation dates will be overwritten.
|14. Why do I not have access to the sport facilities?
To gain access the sport facilities the locks have to get to know your UniCard first. This happens automatically when you use the UniCard to pay at the Studentwerk (in the Cafeteria, Mensa, Westend etc.). Alternatively you can let your card be unlocked at any cash register of the Studentenwerk directly.
|15. What is the sticker (Semestermarke) on my Leporello for?
This sticker was for the old student IDs. Please do not put it on your UniCard!
|16. What if I don't want the UniCard?
We are legally bound to offer an alternative to the electronically readable UniCard. This alternative consists of the old student ID card in paper and the "Semestermarke" (small sticker to put on the student ID) which you can pick up personally every semester after you re-enrolled at the Infopunkt.
