I am a professor of data science at the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics at Bielefeld University. In interdisciplinary projects, I conduct both method-driven and application-driven research, ranging in domain from economics to mathematical epidemiology to medicine.

My particular research interests are

  • Stochastic modelling and statistical inference of dynamic processes, in particular diffusion processes / stochastic differential equations
  • Uncertainty quantification, and in particular learning from uncertainty
  • Computer-intensive Bayesian statistics
  • Risk prediction and integration of data types, e.g. genomic, transcriptomic and clinical/environmental data

As part of a cooperation with Helmholtz Munich, I also lead the Biostatistics group at the Institute of Computational Biology. Through the Core Facility Statistical Consulting, we offer expert support in statistical data analysis and exploration.

Research projects and funding at Bielefeld University are described on the pages of the Data Science group. For information about my activities in Munich, please visit my webpage at Helmholtz Munich.
