FORMS OF MEMBERSHIP AND SOCIAL DISTINCTION FROM ANTIQUITY TO THE MODERN AGE

Summer School from May 14th to May 18th at Bologna University

We are pleased to inform you about the Summer School “Forms of Membership and Social Distinction from Antiquity to the Modern Age” („Formen sozialer Zugehörigkeit und sozialer Disktinktion zwischen Antike und Moderne”). The event is a joint venture by the Universities of Bielefeld and Bologna, of which the main goal is to promote academic communication between young Italian and German scholars, in particular those enrolled in a Master’s or PhD-program.

The following pages will furnish all participants and all those generally interested in our Summer School with information about its contents, organizational matters, and useful indications with regard to the conference site in Bologna.

For all questions and matters concerning the Summer School, we would kindly ask you to refer to the joint email account by Vito Gironda and Stefan Laffin (distinktion@uni-bielefeld.de) who are also responsible for the content of this website.

Summer School a huge success

After the successful conclusion of our third Summer School, we would like to take the occasion to thank all participants – be it as speakers, commentators, or attendees – for their contributions that helped turning the Summer School into such a productive and enjoyable event. The cooperation and joint effort of Italian, German, and Spanish professors, postdocs, PhD-students and MA-students in discussing the subject matter has once again reinforced our belief in this sort of course format. We would particularly express our gratitude to the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD – Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) that generously funded the Summer School and thereby enabled the scholarly discussions. Also, we owe special thanks to the staff of the Department of Storia Culture Civiltà at Bologna University for hosting the event.

We are looking forward to working together with all of you in similar research activities in the future!

Dr. habil. Vito Francesco Gironda, Stefan Laffin, Prof. Dr. Marica Tolomelli
