Prof. Heidi Gottfried is a professor of sociology at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, with a research focus on labour movements, gender and migration studies. As the author and editor of six books and special issues with a recent focus on the political economy of care migration and theorizing scales in transnational research, her work brings important theoretical, methodological and empirical expertise to the Research Training Group. She is a founding member of the Global Labor Migration Network based at the University of Maryland and co-editor with Eileen Boris, Julie Greene and Joo-Cheong Tham of the research volume Global Labor Migration (2022, University of Illinois Press). Her strong academic networks and long engagement in cross-border and transnational research in East Asia, Europe and the US are especially valuable for the Research Training Group and the mentoring of doctoral projects.

Prof. Martin Ruhs is a professor of migration studies and deputy director of the Migration Policy Centre at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, Italy. His books and many journal publications cover the politics of international migration, with a focus on key questions and dilemmas in public policy-making. He brings expertise in political science, and extensive experience of policy analysis and policy networks into the Research Training Group. His active engagement in advising governments, in publications for the IOM and his journalistic contributions (to The New York Times and The Guardian among others) opens an important perspective on applied research and the communication of research that is of great value to our Research Training Group and the career prospects of doctoral students.

Prof. Dr. Yuliya Kosyakova is a Co-PI of an DFG-funded project on the migration and integration of Ukrainian Refugees in Germany (SUARE I & II), PI of the International Mobility Panel of Migrants in Germany (IMPa), Co-PI the IAB-BIBB/FREDA BAMF-SOEP Survey of Ukrainians, Co-PI the IAB-BAMF-SOEP Survey of Refugees, and Co-PI the IAB-SOEP Migration Sample.
Her research focuses on (wartime) migration, return and circular migration, immigrants’ economic disadvantage and integration, public policy effectiveness, stratification and inequality. In recognition of her outstanding scientific achievements early in her career, she was awarded the Raymond Boudon Prize in 2023. In addition to her research, she is actively involved in international scholarly networks, including serving as a board member and treasurer of ISA Research Committee 28 “Social Stratification and Mobility”.
