The internship constitutes a mandatory part of the HEPS/ISoS program and is part of the Internship Module. It should complement and deepen the interdisciplinary knowledge acquired within the programme. You should learn about the organization and working methods in the professional field, and test the applicability of the knowledge gained during your studies. The practical experience should provide guidance for your later career choice and suggestions for the Master's thesis.
The duration of the internship must be at least 240 hours. The module supervisor, currently Prof. Holger Straßheim, decides on the suitability of an internship before it begins. Please contact him once you have identified a potential internship host.
Given its interdisciplinary nature, the HEPS/ISoS program prepares students for work for a variety of fields, such as conducting projects in science research, ensuring quality standards of knowledge and expertise, participation of science in innovation networks, communication and acceptance of knowledge in the media and the public, organization and management of research and teaching.
In the following you will find a list of institutions and companies that have previously hosted students from the HEPS/ISoS proramme.
The internship report is an opportunity to reflect on your work experiences. You should also use the theoretical and analytical concepts acquired during your studies and apply them on both the context and contents of your internship. The report should be up to 4000 words long (PDF) and structured by the following five core questions:
Please be aware that we may publish your answers to question 5 on our internship homepage. Your answers may help other students to choose their own internship. While the internship report may be written in German, question 5 needs to be in English.
The internship report must be submitted to Prof. Holger Straßheim.
