    chemoenzymatic reaction

Overview

In chemoenzymatic synthesis biocatalytic and contemporary organic methods are synergistically combined towards a multistep or one-pot process. There are several limitations of this combination such as:

  • lack of compatibility between these different reaction types;
  • time-consuming “pre” lab work to find the suitable combination of process or tool to combine incompatible ones.

At the same time the list of benefits of described above processes concept is much longer:
  • improvement of overall process efficiency by decreasing the required number of work up and purification steps;
  • impact on industrial applications in terms of both, sustainability, and economy;
  • performing previously “impossible” reactions in tandem or in a stepwise manner, without separating intermediate substances;

Making reactions compatible

In our research, various strategies for the combination of chemo- and biocatalysts towards the development of chemoenzymatic processes are studied. Therein we could demonstrate that enzymatic reactions can be combined with metal-catalyzed as well as organocatalyzed reactions or even high-pressure demanded reactions. In the past years we could successfully develop processes combining these types of catalysts
