General information

In experimental phonetics and laboratory phonology we investigate the acoustic, perceptual and articulatory patterns underlying speech-based communication, with a focus on conversation, multimodal communication, prosody, human-machine interaction, and speech technology.

Promoted knowledge and skills

  • measure and understand speech-based variation
  • elicit, collect and analyze speech and movement data
  • work on speech-based and gestural interaction
  • carry out speech-based production and perception studies
  • use speech technology like voice assistants to investigate speech
  • create speech-based experimental designs

Additional information

To study this profile, it is very useful to have a keen interest in speech signal measurements, and quantitative and computational approaches. However, we do not expect you to be an expert in these things when you start.
