Information about the profile Neurolinguistics

What sub-processes are necessary when we understand or produce language, and how and where do these processes take place in the brain?

Universität Bielefeld

General information

We deal with language processing in the brain and in functional explanatory models. In doing so, we trace the individual steps involved in processing language production and comprehension. Students learn about important neurolinguistic methods used to study language processing in adults and children with and without brain injuries.

Promoted knowledge and skills

  • how spoken and written language is represented in the brain and processed neuronally
  • how language processing, e.g., in speaking and understanding, but also in reading and writing, is explained in functional models
  • about acquired language disorders (aphasia) and written language disorders (dyslexia and dysgraphia)
  • about research methods in cognitive and experimental neurolinguistics

Additional information

This profile is recommended for students who are interested in the sub-steps of language processing and who would like to explore the neural and functional foundations of language processing using neurolinguistic methods.
