The Faculty of Mathematics at Bielefeld University enjoys an excellent reputation within the international mathematical community. Many visitors from Germany and from abroad use funds from the German Research Foundation (DFG), from the Alexander-von-Humboldt foundation or from their own grants to do research here at Bielefeld University.
Large-scale projects, such as
the Collaborative Research Center - Transregio CRC-TRR 358 "Integral Structures in Geometry and Representation Theory" (in cooperation with Paderborn University),
the ERC Starting Grant "Mathematical analysis of fluid flows: the challenge of randomness" (Principal Investigator: Martina Hofmanová),
the ERC Consolidator Grant "Fluctuations in continuum and conservative stochastic partial differential equations" (Principal Investigator: Benjamin Gess)
as well as other scientific units within the university form a basis of this intense research activity. These are complemented with individual research projects and international collaborations.
An overview on the different topics can be found in the list of core research areas of the faculty.
