International Women in Mathematics Day

Since 2019, 12 May has been International Women in Mathematics Day.

In memory of the renowned Iranian mathematician Maryam Mirzakhani (12 May 1977 – 14 July 2017), who in 2014 became the first woman ever to be awarded the Fields Medal, we celebrate women in mathematics on 12 May.

Visiting Professorship in Gender Studies

For the summer term of 2026, we have succeeded in securing Prof. Dr Eva Müller-Hill from the University of Cologne as a visiting professor in gender studies at Bielefeld University.
