Mission Statement

The Center for Mathematical Economics has seen a complete facelifting in the last decade. Faithful to its traditions in mathematical economics, it has itself redefined and opened up to new research fields and collaborations.

The Center aims to be one of the leading research institutions in (mathematical) economic theory in Europe. It is the center of new developments and innovative visions of new research in economics and related fields. We believe that mathematical language and modeling can be extremely useful in all social sciences and promote interdisciplinary research in these directions.

Teaching is the basis for successful research. The Center and its related faculties provide an excellent, internationally oriented education from Bachelor to doctoral degree. An excellent education in quantitative economics as well as a profound and solid formation for doctoral students build the basis for successful researchers on the international market. The Center's researchers are responsible for research-oriented master programs in Mathematical resp. Quantitative Economics that form the basis for a successful doctoral program, in Finance resp. Economics. Our doctoral program BiGSEM has close links with outstanding institutions worldwide, and our students have the option to spend time abroad in Paris, Amsterdam, Bejing, Warwick or Princeton, to give some examples.
