All academic achievements you make in the course of your studies are recorded in the electronic Examination Management.

This explanatory video will help you get started with Examination Management.

What the Examination Management can do, how you can move academic achievements to another module, why some courses appear in the Examination Management but not others, and much more can be found in the explanations of the Examination Management.

If you have technical questions about Examination Management, please contact the BIS team.

If you have questions about specific course bookings, please contact the relevant examination office.

Background

The occupational practice studies (BPSt) as the Bielefeld version of the professional internship is located in the modules of the study programme variants of educational sciences, but is offered at Bielefeld University primarily by the didactics departments of the subjects for historical and content-related reasons. The Faculties responsible for the subjects therefore export their BPSt courses to the Faculty of Educational Science, which is responsible for the study programme variants in educational sciences. To compensate for this export of teaching from the subjects, the Faculty of Educational Science compiles a course pool each semester as an offer for the subject didactics modules, which the subjects import. This pool of courses forms the BiWi import.

The BiWi import - What is it?

Every semester, the Faculty of Educational Science compiles a course pool as an offer for the subject didactics modules of the subjects, which the subjects import, the so-called BiWi-Import.

What do I need to consider when importing BiWi?

As a rule, each subject in a module has a BiWi import. As at least two subjects are studied, you must therefore study several BiWi imports. It is important that you attend a separate course for each intended BiWi import. It is not possible to use a course twice.

In some cases, courses from the BiWi import are also used in modules of the educational sciences version of degree programmes in addition to the subject didactics modules. The following also applies here: You may not attend the same course with the identical title twice (e.g. in different semesters). The following also applies: If you have taken a compulsory course with the same title in educational sciences or will do so during your degree programme (Bachelor and Master of Education), you may not attend a course with the same title in the BiWi import. However, you can choose a course from the same subject area ("Diagnosis and Support", "Didactics" or "Research-based Learning") as long as it has a different title.
In the study programme variants of educational sciences, courses from the BiWi import are used in the following modules:

  • Primary school (G)
    in the Bachelor's programme: 25-BiWi11-G Elements E1 and E2
  • Primary school (G) with integrated special education (G/ISP)
    in the Bachelor's programme: 25-BiWi-BPSt-ISP Elements E1 and E2
  • Teacher training programme for Hauptschule, Realschule, Sekundarschule and Gesamtschule (HRSGe):
    in the Bachelor's degree: 25-BIWi4_a Elements E1 and E2;
in the Master of Education: 25-BiWi9_a Element E1 and 25-BiWi9_a Element 2b (compulsory elective element)
  • Teacher training programme Hauptschule, Realschule, Sekundarschule and Gesamtschule with integrated special education (HRSGe/ISP)
in the Master of Education: BiWi9_a Element E1
  • Advanced secondary and comprehensive school (GymGe)
in the Master of Education: 25-BiWi15_a Element E4 (compulsory elective element)

You can decide for yourself which BiWi import you would like to use in which modules. You can make the assignment yourself in the examination management. To do this, use the "Edit assignment" editing function for the specific coursework.

What do I need to consider when creating the schedule?

In order to be considered for the allocation of places, you must include the desired courses in the timetable by the deadline (the Faculty of Educational Science will inform you of this by email). This also applies to the BiWi import courses. As usual, add the desired BiWi import courses to the timetable and then prioritise them.

When allocating places, we endeavour to ensure that every student receives a course of the BiWi import type. To increase the probability of obtaining a place in a BiWi import course, you can include as many courses as possible. You should plan the various BiWi imports for the different modules of the subjects and, if applicable, educational sciences over several semesters, as there is usually exactly one course of the BiWi import type available per student.

Transition from the combined bachelor's degree to the Master of Education

In addition to the information on approval for the Master of Education, the following should be noted when transferring from the combined bachelor's degree to the Master of Education for timely completion of the bachelor's course:

  • Four examination offices (elementary school teaching degree and elementary school teaching degree with integrated special education) or three examination offices (other types of teaching degree) are involved in the degree preparation process.
  • All required academic achievements must have been completed in each version of degree programme variants.
  • The Bachelor's thesis must be registered and handed in on time.
  • The Bachelor's thesis has a review period of six weeks. This also applies to other module examinations.
  • Processing times for final documents in the examination offices.
  • Vacation periods during the lecture-free period.
  • It is expected that a larger number of students will want to complete the bachelor course, so that an increased demand at examination offices, Student Counselling Services, etc. can be expected.

Students are therefore advised to contact the examination offices and the first and second examiners in good time.

For BAföG recipients, the (personal) last performance (Bachelor's thesis, module examination or study achievements) should not be handed in before the beginning of August (if the Bachelor course is completed in the Summer semester) or before the beginning of February (if the Bachelor course is completed in the Winter semester) in order to be able to receive BAföG in the last two months of the Bachelor course. To be on the safe side, please consult your responsible examination office.
