Knowledge Transfer at the IMW
At the IMW, our aim is to make our research and expertise accessible beyond the academic sphere and to contribute to the exchange between academia and society. As part of our knowledge transfer activities, we engage practitioners, policy-makers and the general public in a dialogue based on insights from mathematical economics.

Homecoming Seminar
The Homecoming Seminar invites IMW alumnae and alumni to Bielefeld to share their professional experiences and career paths with current students and members of the institute.
Wissenswerkstadt Bielefeld
Through events held at the Wissenswerkstatt Bielefeld, members of the IMW engage in dialogue with the general public about their research findings and expertise, making scientific insights accessible beyond the academic world.
DGVFM & DAV
Through its close links with the DGVFM and the DAV, the IMW brings together research, teaching and professional practice in the insurance sector. Maren Schmeck is a member of the DGVFM’s extended executive board, while seminars promote dialogue between researchers and professionals from the insurance sector. Furthermore, the IMW supports students aiming to obtain the DAV actuary qualification, with Frank Riedel acting as the designated faculty adviser.
Consulting
The members of the IMW contribute their economic expertise to specific legal and political issues. In particular, Dominik Karos advises several German courts on the economic consequences of major cartel proceedings and is an associate member of the Studienvereinigung Kartellrecht.
Verein zur Förderung der mathematischen Wirtschaftsforschung e. V.
The Association for the Promotion of Mathematical Economic Research (Verein zur Förderung der mathematischen Wirtschaftsforschung e. V.) supports a wide range of activities at the IMW and strengthens links between researchers, alumni and the private sector by providing a platform for networking, exchange and the transfer of knowledge.
