Computational Biology
Research topics & objectives
Our group blends techniques of data analysis, modeling, machine learning, and bioinformatics with molecular biology and biochemistry to study photosynthesis, metal homeostasis, and specialized metabolism, with a special focus on transcriptional regulation. Our research often centers on evolutionary hypotheses or ideas at their heart. We collaborate across disciplines and primarily study cyanobacteria and plants.
Teaching
We teach courses in computational biology, data analysis, and basic concepts in biology at the bachelor and master level.
Our goal is to combine theory with practical skills.

Neue Erkenntnisse für mehr Tierwohl
Nach rund drei Jahren gemeinsamer Forschung geht das Verbundprojekt Mini6Ei zu Ende. Ziel war die Entwicklung und praxisnahe Validierung einer minimalinvasiven Methode zur frühzeitigen Geschlechtsbestimmung bei befruchteten Hühnereiern.

Eine groß angelegte ökologische Studie rückt erstmals die Kommunen in den Mittelpunkt. Die Ergebnisse geben Anlass zur Hoffnung.

Universität erhält rund 778.000 Euro für MINT-Förderung
EFRE-Förderung ermöglicht Aufbau von acht außerschulischen Lernangeboten. NRW-Wissenschaftsministerin Ina Brandes hat die Förderbescheide für acht neue Projekte an Professor Dr. Claas Wegner übergeben, der die Umsetzung in den teutolabs der Universität koordiniert.
