Close to 30 full professors are permanently employed at the Faculty of Mathematics. Not counting external funding, more than 60 additional researchers work at the faculty, which also has about 15 administrative employees. Research in mathematical education is done at the IDM (Institut für Didaktik der Mathematik), which is a scientific unit within the faculty. It also plays an important role in the training of future teachers of mathematics.
External funding through large scale scientific ventures allows some 40 additional mathematicians to do research at the faculty.
The current dean of the faculty is Prof. Dr. Kai-Uwe Bux. The dean is elected by the faculty conference. Seven additional permanent committees help with governing the faculty.
