The Master Mathematics is an English-language degree programme with a scope of 120 CP, of which 40 CP are in a compulsory area and 80 CP in a compulsory elective area.
Numerous modules totalling 10 LP or 5 LP are offered in the compulsory elective area. Each module in the compulsory elective area is assigned to one of the following subject areas:
A1. Algebra and number theory
A2. Analysis
A3. Geometry and topology
B1. Probability theory and statistics
B2. Numerics and Discrete Mathematics
Introductory courses are regularly offered in each subject area, as well as further opportunities for specialisation. A total of at least three areas must be studied, each with at least one 10 LP module, including one from areas A1 - A3 and one from B1 or B2. Otherwise, the compulsory elective area can be customised.
The compulsory area consists of the modules Study Planning, Professional Practice and Soft Skills (24-M-SPS, 5 CP) and the Master's module (24-M-MTMS, 35 CP).
The Master's thesis is written as part of the Master's module. The processing time is 6 months. It also includes a presentation in a Master's seminar and a presentation of the thesis.
In addition to credit points for professional internships, tutoring activities or other soft skills, the 24-M-SPS module provides one credit point for the conclusion of a study plan agreement (form). It should be concluded after initial orientation in the degree programme towards the end of the first semester. In the study plan agreement, students and a teacher jointly define a study programme of 30 CP, which provides further orientation in the degree programme and on the basis of which a Master's thesis topic can be assigned. The study plan agreement can be adapted at any time.
