The conference Bauhaus Modernism and its Myths brought together many researchers from several countries to stimulate an interdisciplinary dialog which until now had been dominated by art history. Literary historian Helmut Lethen talked about reflections of philosophical anthropology among the Bauhaus architects while Irene Below presented a microscopic study of the long ignored Leopold Fischer - one of many architects who emigrated to America. Magdalena Droste analysed constructions of masculinity in the works of Bauhaus master Oskar Schlemmer while social historian Anja Baumhoff deconstructed the myth of objective form and its relation to gender. Frederic J. Schwartz from London considered the influence of Adorno, Bloch and the legacy of Modernism in the BRD and thus unfolded the aftermath of the Bauhaus' history. The international conference went on for three days and stimulated new discussion on Modernism and the Bauhaus. A publication is expected later this year.
