All the World's a Stage... Concepts of Audience-Dependent Performance in Science and Humanities

Date: March 6 - 7, 2009

Organizer: Silke Kipper (Berlin)

"All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players..." In March 2009, scientists from humanities and sciences including sociology, psychology, theatre and cultural studies, and biology met at the ZiF to discuss concepts of audience-effects in men and other animals. The construction, effect, and function of players and audiences and the interdependence between 'acting' and 'observing' agents on stages of all kind were investigated. Participants discussed similarities, differences and overlaps in theories and concepts of audience-dependent performance in different disciplines.
